When I decided to illustrate something of meaning that could encapsulate the absolute devastation that has ravaged my beautiful country and the animals that live within it, I didn’t want to draw anything lighthearted. The emotions attached are too strong, too raw and too inconceivable.

One could look at this and construe a sense of survival and resurrection from the ashes of a ravaged land. The determination of an animal to live at all cost. This would be fitting if that is your interpretation of a narrative more suited to you.

My meaning however is a more solemn one. Our normally adorable and affable koala is filled with justified anger, striding from the hell that was once it’s home in search, not for help -  for answers. From those that caused this level of absolute destruction and death, he would ask. ‘What have you done?”

We are all accountable and unless something changes, the entire world will be covered in darkness.
